A great friend told me that your life doesn't start until your 30's. January 5th of this year I turned 30 and this is what I've done this year... And yes I know this is a costuming site and most of this is surrounding costuming.
- Along with fellow 501st and RL members, we helped Disney launch their new cruise ship, the Dream dressed as pirates.
- Became a member of the 501st as the Imperial Officer Juno Eclipse. ID 9426. I couldn't have been happier.
- Went to Megacon for the second time. This is now a yearly event for me. Met new friends and old ones and also was able to get my dad Mira Furlan's autograph.
- 3 days after Megacon went to go see Kevin Smith, Scott Mosier and Jason Mewes live in Orlando with my friend James.
- Went to Motor City Comic Con with Jeremy. Before this I was working on a secret costume that I revealed there as Hoth Luke Skywalker. Made some amazing new friends and got to see an old friend, Hyper, who got the ball rolling on us coming up and bringing the wampa with us. Also got to met and talk with Betsy Russell, Peter Mayhew, George Takei, Katie Cook and Ian Ziering. Amazing people to talk too.
- Went to San Fransisco with Jeremy for a big secret thing. That on 4th of July was revealed to be the new Star Wars Adidas ad campaign. Also and yes this sounds corny but I put my feet in the Pacific Ocean. Had no feeling in my feet for 3 hours but I did it. We also got to go to Lucas and had pictures taken in front of the famous Yoda statue. Did I mention this was only June?
- TK was finally finished after a little break. I submitted and was approved by the 501st and became TK 9426.
- Went to DragonCon in Atlanta. Got to see my friends from Michigan and a new friend from MegaCon. It was like a reunion. No Star Wars costumes for me this time. I was Captain Mal from Firefly and Tifa Lockhart from Final Fantasy Advent Children.
- Got my 17th tattoo done. A jigsaw puzzle piece that I showed to Tobin Bell via twitter who said it looked cool.
- Finally got to do an event wearing my TK. Midnight release of the Blu-Rays and it only took an hour to be asked if I was too short to be a stormtrooper.
- All I got to say is danced on stage with Weird Al with my fellow 501st members.
- Did an event for Timothy Zahn book signing. Star Wars authors of my favorite Star Wars books. Got one of my books signed.
So far for 1 year into my 3rd decade on this planet it has been an amazing year. What's next? Celebration. Yes it is coming back to Orlando in 2012 and I will be there. And of course with new costumes. Whats to be made for this? Glad you asked. A modified version of Starkiller's red and black concept robes. Translation female version. A modified Slave Leia. Translation Slave Leia mixed with a Stormtrooper. Sith Cheerleader. Yes I cheerleader. I once actually wanted to be a cheerleader for the Bucs when I was a kid.
More costumes to come? Of course! Jaina Solo, the daughter of Han and Leia. Mirta Gev, the granddaughter of Boba Fett. And also one of the Nightsisters.
There is one more I'm going to make that is a non-Star Wars costume. I was going to keep it a secret but I won't. Back at the Disney Dream event, I realized that something. Just about every girl dreamed of being a princess. Including me. Yes me! Believe it or not I can be girlie sometimes. Oh hush. The princess I wanted to be then is Aurora. Better known as Sleeping Beauty. She was always my favorite. I even have 5 Barbies of her and a "few" other knick knacks as well. No it won't be the pink dress. It will be the blue one. This will be the biggest venture in my costume making and I plan on it being done in about 14 months... I hope...
It's been an amazing year and I'm sure more exciting things will come to happen.
